Where the stories are. Or should be.

I once thought that I wanted to get a Masters in Social Work so I applied to the program at the nearest university.  During the interview the director of the program asked me to define social work.  I floundered for a second because I had never taken a social work class before and although I thought I knew what social workers did (help people, right?) I didn’t know how to begin to define it.  And so I said,

My favorite word in the English language is fireplace because the word tells you exactly what it is- the place where the fire is. Or should be.  That’s also true about Social Work- the work being done in the different social spheres.

And when I think about writing I think I about story telling and story keeping and that I want this to be a kind of storyplace.  You know, where the stories are. Or should be.
